I have officially been tagged by Thea Gregory! Her novel, Sanity Vacuum, will be released very very soon! She is totally stalker worthy!
What is the working title of your book?
After the Woods. I knew I wanted woods or forest in the title. The direct translation of Transylvania is Beyond the Forest and I thought it would be a nice fit considering the novel has vampires and witches!
Where did the idea come from for the book?
I was hiking in the woods in Louisiana and stumbled upon a 100 year old chestnut tree. Just incase you don't know, chest nut trees aren't native to the south. There was this amazing story about how this tree was shipped in from Chicago in the early 1900's and planted in the backyard of a plantation. The house was no longer there. The only thing that survived the selling of the land and the house being torn down was that one chestnut tree. As I sat on the ground, I imagined a white antebellum house and a girl running through the woods. Some of the surrounding trees in the woods lined up perfectly and I knew that they had once led to the house. My imagination went wild. As we hiked back, I told my husband that I was going to write a novel and have been writing ever since.
What genre does your book fall under?
Fantasy... I think. :)
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Eek. I couldn't tell you!
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Elisabeth is the owner of an ancient antique and must learn magic to save her life and those she cares about the most.”
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I will be published by the amazing Curiosity Quills Press in early 2013 *hopefully!*.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I started writing in March of 2011. Wrote 20k words. Trashed it and started over during NaNo 2011. It took 18 days to write the first draft. But don't ask me how long it has taken to edit it! Eek!
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Um. I can't really say. I haven't really encountered a book that has witches, pirates, vampires, and other magical made up creatures.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Camping and my wild imagination! I had read so many stories of others self-publishing their works. I knew it was something that I wanted to do. I never imagined I would be signed and professionally published!
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I like to think that my heroine isn't whiny or helpless like most in my genre. Also, I have not-so-perfect relationships, pirates, witches, nogsters, underwater cities, and evil blood lusting vampires. I mean, what else could you hope for?
Since it is my turn to pass the tagging torch, I choose Dawna Raver!
(and her book -Colour Wielders- is AWESOME and will be published very soon!)
